What's New

This is the "What's New" page. It will keep you up to date on the latest happenings at the Club. Check here also for any changes in schedules and other news beyond what is in the printed calendar
10/21/08 - The Annual Meeting was held on October 20. We heard reports from all the areas, approved some modifications to the bylaws, thanked the three outgoing board members and welcomed their successors. We were also reminded that the Pro Shop and Dining Room close on October 31. The next club-wide event is the Holiday Party on Saturday, December 27. Invitations will be sent out after Thanksgiving.
8/28/08 - An email to all on-line members reminded them to pick up their parking passes and think about volunteering to be on the board. Also, the Annual Meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 20 at 7:00pm in the clubhouse.
8/14/08 - The 2008 "Rally For The Cure" event was another success! Over $2700 was raised for "Rally" and "Susan G. Komen For The Cure", which were also the winners for the day.
The generosity of the Thursday Men's League and Schooltech, and all the other donors and sponsors, pushed the total donations past $1400! We are grateful for all the support and collaboration.
One of the highlights of the day occurred when the Goodyear blimp flew over the course with the message, "Support Susan G. Komen For the Cure" as all the women in pink below enjoyed the morning. We don't know if they guessed at the event because of all the pink and provided the message, or if the blimp folks were alerted some other way. It surprised all of us.
Thank you to all of the volunteers, participants, donors and staff who contributed to another successful event.
7/21/08 - The Mid-Summer Party has been canceled. The dining room and golf course will be open as usual. Many other events are scheduled for the rest of July and August so check your calendar and the sign-up sheets in the breezeway.
7/19/08 - Two new policies have been posted in the Members Area. One relates to golf (making tee times on weekend mornings plus minor items). The other defines the timing for the use of Pro Shop gift certificates. Use the link in the list at left to get to the Members Area.
7/18/08 - The Mid-Summer Party needs more attendees to make it worthwhile. Please contact John Dahl right away if you want to attend.
7/17/08 - Jackie and Jason have made some changes to the lunch and dinner menus. Please check them out by going to the Dining Room page. Use the link in the list at left.
7/14/08 - The Mid-Summer Party is scheduled for Saturday, July 26 from 5:00 to 9:00. Enjoy golf, tennis, croquet and bocce ball until 7:30 when you will be served a "barbecue buffet." Beer, wine and soft drinks will be served. Guests are welcome. $20 per person. Contact John Dahl at (734) 971-2502 or specialevents@aagoc.org to register or ask questions.
6/3/08 - Progress is being made in updating this website. The 2008 season calendar is on-line (see link at left). The lunch and dinner menus have also been posted (see Dining Room at left).
5/7/08 - Long-time former member Gene Fowler was honored in the Ann Arbor News of May 5 in a touching story by Geoff Larcom. You can read the article at http://www.mlive.com/annarbor/stories/index.ssf?/base/news-0/1209998431190970.xml&coll=2&thispage=2

4/15/08 - Over the years, AAGOC has planted trees and established gardens to honor the memory of deceased members. We have created these web pages to document these additions. To document these enhancements, members Cliff Morris, Carolin Dick and Sandell Bennett are creating a "Memory Book" which will be available for viewing in the clubhouse. The pages are now available on-line. Click on Memorials in the list of links at left.

4/15/08 - The 2008 season is officially underway with the opening of the Pro Shop. The temperature is in the 50s and the sun is out. Can sub-par rounds be far behind?

9/4/07 - We have just learned that the city has created a website for the sidewalk project: http://www.eaststadiumbridges.com/. The first public workshop is Tuesday, September 18 at 6:00 in the Pioneer High Cafeteria.

6/27/06 - Here are the highlights of a message sent recently to all members who have submitted their email address:

1. The Independence Day Mixer has been changed from Monday, July 3 to Tuesday, July 4. It seems many members will be working on Monday.
2. The end of June is this Friday. If you haven't yet used your minimum in the dining room, please don't wait until the last day. Reservations are recommended. Speaking of the dining room, it will be open this weekend on Saturday and Sunday and closed Monday as usual. It will also be closed on Tuesday, July 4 although members playing in the mixer that day will get a meal as part of that event.
3. The Mid-summer party is coming up on Saturday, July 22 (the last night of the Art Fairs). Details on theme and price will be posted soon.

6/21/06 - Calendar update. The telephone number for the tennis house as printed in the calendar is incorrect. The correct number is 668-8892.
6/1/06 - Golf News! We still need more people to sign up for the Member - Member Tournament on the weekend of June 10-11. You need not have a partner in advance. Just call the pro shop and they will match you up.
Also, the Annual Invitational scheduled for June 22, 23 & 24 is in jeopardy. We need more participants. Like for the Member-Member, call the pro shop for your options.
5/12/06 - There is still time to sign up for the Newcomers' Party. You have until Wednesday, May 17. See the article below for contact info. The menu will be mostly new this year and include mini carved prime rib sandwiches, shrimp cocktail, meatballs, four passed dishes as well as sautéed calamari and chicken. In addition, we will be using the Club's new chocolate fountain.
4/27/06 - Reminder that the Newcomers' Party is Saturday, May 20. Get your reservations in to John Dahl at 971-2502 or by email to specialevents@aagoc.org. John is also forming a committee to work on Special Events. You can also offer your help for that when you make your reservations.
4/27/06 - The May "Notes from the Rough" has been posted in the Members' Area. Click on that link at the left side of this page.
4/19/06 - This message is a reminder that the New Members' Orientation scheduled for 7:00 on Tuesday, May 9 at the club is not just for new members. It is open to all who want to hear from the board members and the staff. It will be a good refresher for all and an easy way to gather a wide range of information should you be considering service on the board. No reservations are required.
4/15/06 - Brian has submitted the following items. Pease get with him (brian@aagoc.org or 663-4044) if you have any questions or inputs:
1. Please check your calendars for possible mistakes. Brian will be sending out a note with corrections and updates.

Also, the above information has been sent directly to members who have been on the email list plus everyone who has recently submitted the pink cards enclosed with the calendar packet. If you would like to be added to the list, please send an email to webmaster@aagoc.org
1/24/06 - Reminder on basketball parking. Please heed the instructions of the attendant at the triangle as we try to maximize the number of cars we can park. Some members have been taking up more than one place in an attempt to prevent getting blocked in. With a little attention to the attendant and some patience after the game, we can accommodate many more members.
1/21/06 -  Another feature of the 2006 season: the Couples' League will be on Sunday afternoon at 4:00 with a shotgun start.
1/20/06 - The year 2005 is now history and we can start to look ahead to the 2006 season. The first item of business is to pay our dues. This message will remind you that your dues payment must be postmarked by January 31 to avoid a late charge.
Other items of interest in this off-season can found in the Board Minutes available from the Members' Area. Hint: the December meeting includes the total revenues from football parking and status reports on upgrading the Angell House and building the new restroom.
12/6/05 - Because of the U-M's bowl game and basketball schedule, we have moved up the Holiday party from Dec. 28 to Tuesday, December 27. A mailed invitation with reply card will be going out to each member shortly but here is the info you need to know: 6-9pm, guests are welcome, cocktails and snacks will be served, valet parking will be available. $25 per person. You can make your reservations by email to specialevents@aagoc.org.
Only about four months to go until we are able to play golf and tennis again....
10/24/05 - Due to lack of registrations (only a couple dozen prospective attendees), the end-of-season party was canceled. Note that the dining room closes for the season after serving on Friday and the pro shop closes after the weekend. The next club event is the Holiday party scheduled for Tuesday, December 28. Invitations will be coming to you by mail in early December.
10/17/05 - The annual meeting drew about 50-60 members. In addition to reports from all the various areas of the club, three new directors were elected; Patty Hagopian for Dining, Doug Brinkman for Finance and John Dahl for Special Events.
10/13/05 - The invitation you received with your October bill was incorrect. We will be meeting in the Dining Room. Also, the Nominating Committee was made up of Allen Patrick, Tom Wilkins and Mary Anne Hudge.
Please mention this change to other members you may meet between now and Monday since they may not have heard.
Sorry for the error. See you Monday at 6:30 in the Dining Room!
10/12/05 - The October newsletter and September board minutes have been posted in the Members' Area. The Annual Meeting will be in the dining room at 6:30 on Monday, Oct. 17. The season-ending event will be a Las Vegas Party from 7:00-11:00 on Saturday, October 29. Here is the flyer on the event as a .pdf file.
9/12/05 - Reply postcards for the 9/24 Tailgate Party are being mailed out with the current bills. Here is the flyer on the event as a .pdf file. You will also receive a write-up in the September "Notes from the Rough" which will be mailed to you soon.

Also, the End-of-Season Party on Saturday, October 29 will have a Las Vegas theme so start now to hone your skills in Blackjack, Roulette, Texas Hold 'em and other casino games. You will have a chance for big prizes. Halloween costumes will be optional.

8/27/05 - Email Upate #11 was emailed out today. Its topics include the Tailgate Party on September 24, the End-of-Season party, parking passes, annual meeting, sign up for golf, etc. If you did not receive the message but would like to be included in the future, please contact John White. The full text of the update is posted in the Members Area.
7/14/05 - Email Update #10 has been sent out electronically to some 200 members. News items include the upcoming "Music and Moonlight" party on Saturday, July 23 (sign up soon!), dates for future events, e.g., the Annual Meeting, the End-of-season Party and the Holiday Party, and an advance copy of the July Notes from the Rough.
6/18/05 - The tennis season is now officially underway with the opening of our new courts. New nets have also been installed. Check your calendar for the days and times to get together. Everyone is welcome to play.
6/17/05 - Here is a drawing of a restroom/shelter envisioned to replace the current porta-potties and wooden gazebo next to the ninth tee. The decision to go ahead with its construction will be based on the financial outcome of the football parking season.
5/30/05 - Congratulations to Lisa, Tom, Sarah and Mary Anne. They were the winners of the Memorial Day Mixer. Click on the photo for a larger view. Use the Back or Return button to return.
5/28/05 - The second Couples' League event is Wednesday, June 1. Results and tee times are in the Members' Area of the website. Once in, go to the Activities and Events page and then to Mixed Golf.
5/27/05 - The season is off to a great start. The New Member Orientation class trained two dozen "students," the dining room served 300 meals on Mothers' Day, Men's Opening Day drew 55 golfers, Ladies' Opening Day had 56 players and the Newcomers' Party had 116 attendees.
4/22/05 - Unfortunately, the tennis courts will not kick off the season with the rest of the club's facilities. They are being replaced this year starting on May 6 with a scheduled completion date of June 15. Tennis players may want to consider using the courts at Burns Park or Pioneer High until our new courts are completed. Sorry for the inconvenience.
4/20/05 - The dining room opens for the season with lunch on Tuesday May 3. In general, reservations are encouraged. You can make your reservations by telephone at 663-4044 and press 3 to leave a voicemail. You can also send an email to diningroom@aagoc.org. Reservations by email will be a new feature this year. If you reserve by email, Jackie promises a confirmation message to help make sure the program gets off the ground properly.
4/12/05 - The 2005 season is upon us! The calendars have been mailed. The course is ready. The Pro Shop opens on 4/15 and the dining room opens on 5/3. 2/25/05 - The Women's Golf Guide has been posted on the Women's Golf page within the Members Area of this website. Click on the Members Area button in the menu at left.
2/25/05 - The snow will soon be gone and the season will get under way with about two dozen (wow, big class!) new members. Some key dates to know right now are:
April 5 - the calendar packets will be mailed to all members
April 15 - the Pro Shop opens
May 1 - the Dining Room opens
May 4 (Wednesday evening) - Newcomers' Orientation (everyone welcome)
May 14 (Saturday evening)  - Newcomers' Party

Note: After this large class of new members is inducted, we will post the new waiting list. Check back here in late March or April.

1/2/04 - In addition to playing more golf, another good New Year's resolution would be to ensure your dues payment is in by the end of January.
12/28/04 - A total of 105 members and their guests enjoyed an evening of fellowship, food and fun at the 2004 Holiday Party. A few photos are below. The chocolate fountain (lower left photo) was a big hit.
12/2/04 - Brian Stange has announced that the Pro Shop will be open from 5-9pm on December 4, 5,9,10 and 11. He is offering an extra 20% off with free gift wrapping and a golf lesson with every purchase. Stop by!
12/1/04 - The 2004 Holiday Party will be Tuesday, December 28 from 6:00 to 9:00. Invitations will be going out in the mail early in December.
10/18/04 - The 2004 Annual Meeting was held in the Dining Room and was well-attended. The draft minutes will be posted on the Member's Site.
10/12/04 - Unfortunately, the End-of-Season party had to be canceled due to a low number of reservations.
10/5/04 - Our End-of-Season Party is Saturday, October 16. This informal event, “An Evening of Folk Music,” will get under way at 7:00 and will include snacks, beer, wine, soft drinks and entertainment by “Katie Geddes and the Usual Suspects.” Katie and her group will be playing contemporary and traditional folk and country/folk music. Details and a reservation postcard were in the September newsletter. $15 per person. Guests are welcome. Sign up by Monday, Oct. 11. Contact John White at 662-9873 if you have any questions or if you want to sign up.
10/3/04 - The third annual Malloy Cup Matches ended with a 35-30 victory for Team Burgundy. A total of 52 players competed in what is fast becoming a classic end-of-season event. A special feature of this year's contest was a spectacular scoreboard.
10/1/04 - The membership waiting list has not been posted recently but the one from before this year's new members is available. As you review the list, note that the first forty or so names have either joined the club or otherwise left the list. Those who have put their names on the list in the last year will see their names appear when the latest list is posted here, probably this fall or winter.
9/30/04 - The latest "Notes from the Rough" and Board Minutes are posted in the Member's Area. Highlights include golf and bridge winners, the end-of-season party on October 16 and the Annual meeting on Monday, October 18 (6:30 pm in the dining room).
8/3/04 - These two reminders came out of the Board Meeting on August 2: Proper attire must be worn by all members, both on the course and in the dining room. Details are in the printed calendar under "Course Rules" but note that blue jeans are specifically prohibited. The other rule is that members are not allowed in the kitchen, primarily due to safety and health concerns. If you need something or want to see Jason or Jackie, please ask a waitperson to help.
7/25/04 - The Club's midsummer party, "Sentimental Journey" saw 95 members and guests treated to a jukebox filled with songs from before 1960, a buffet dinner and live entertainment by Etcetera, a seven voice musical troupe. Their repertoire included old standards and several amusing numbers. Ideas for a theme for the end-of-year party on Saturday, October 16 are welcome. One suggestion so far is for an old-fashioned "Sock Hop" as many of us recall from our high school days. Please contact John White if you have some thoughts.
7/2/04 - The Women's Golf Invitational will be Wednesday, July 28. It will be a nine hole scramble. Sign up alone or bring up to three guests. All players must have a current GAM handicap. See the sign-up sheet on the bulletin board for details.
7/1/04 - Euchre will be suspended due to the lack of interest in the first two sessions. Please contact John White if you want to play and have suggestions on how we might revive the activity.
