Information on the MiPHS |
The Michigan Photographic
Historical Society (MiPHS) was originally organized in 1972. In 1973, it
was chartered as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation by the State of Michigan.
The Society encourages the collection and preservation of
photographic equipment, images, photo literature, processes and
techniques and the study of history of photographers and equipment
especially as related to Michigan.

MiPHS conducts several major meetings a year with speakers, films, slides, demonstrations or displays in addition to an annual dinner meeting. Other events include the annual trade show and field trips. All meetings are open to the public. Six times a year, the Society publishes its newsletter, "The Photogram." Interested individuals are invited to become members. Over the past several years, MiPHS has also assisted the Detroit Historical Museum in the identification of their old cameras, cosponsored an exhibition catalog for the Michigan Historical Museum and sponsored the play "Brady of Broadway." Individual members of the Society have authored books on photographica and presented papers at international conferences. The Society currently has about 250 members, including dozens from outside Michigan and several foreign countries. Go to the Join Us! page for more information on membership.
